Ask a question, name a period, or name an event. Historia searches the public APIs of the Library of Congress, Chronicling America, the US National Archives, the Smithsonian, DPLA, the Internet Archive, the UK National Archives, Gallica, the Wellcome Collection, the Met, the Art Institute of Chicago, Old Bailey Online, GovInfo, OpenAlex, Semantic Scholar and DOAJ and returns real catalogue records with working links.
Every source here is free to read. No paywalls, no library card, and no account is required to search.
For a long source, the archive's own full-text index says which pages or chapters contain the search terms. The server counts the matches and shows up to three places with their counts and the archive's own text. No model reads the source and no model chooses. It matches words, not meaning; scanned text has errors; the back of a book matches everything, so index-like pages are labelled and ranked last; only sources with searchable text get a pointer.
